Apple TV - Feedback and technical support

    Vudu is on Apple TV!
Please use this thread to share (constructive) feedback, report previously un-identified bugs, and raise other technical issues.
For help with accounts, titles, and other non-Apple TV issues, please reach out to support@vudu.com or @vudusupport on Twitter.

    Vudu for Apple TV Requirements:
    4th Generation Apple TV
TVOS 10.x (Official TVOS 11.X support forthcoming)

Questions? Please first check out our FAQs: https://vudu.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/401

    Top FAQs:
    1. Where do I find the Vudu Player app?
Simply search for the Vudu Player in the Apple TV App Store. Or better yet, just ask Siri for it using the voice search functionality.

    2. Will I be able to rent or buy from the app?
You will not be able to purchase directly from the app. You will be able to watch over 4,000 free movies and TV shows with Movies On Us, as well as any titles in your Vudu collection.

You will also have access to your UltraViolet and Disney Movies Anywhere titles if you link those digital lockers to Vudu. Overall, your Apple TV experience will generally mirror your experience on the iOS app.

    3. So how do I rent or buy movies and TV shows?
You can easily rent or buy from vudu.com, or from our app on other platforms (gaming console, Android device, Blu-ray player, smart TV, etc.), and then watch instantly on your Apple TV.

Within the Apple TV app, you can use the Wishlist feature to save titles you're interested in for easy reference later.

    4. Can I watch my 4K UHD movies?
Apple TV does not currently support 4K playback. You will be able to watch any 4K UHD movies you own in up to HDX 1080p.

    5. Will I be able to watch my UltraViolet or Disney Movies Anywhere titles?
Heck yeah. If you have already linked your UltraViolet and Disney Movies Anywhere digital lockers to Vudu then you're all set. If you're new to Vudu, be sure to link them during the sign up process.

Re: Apple TV - Feedback and technical support

Love the app guys! THANK YOU!

Since you asked us for constructive feedback, I'll give you my first impression -

Under My Vudu, I wish I was seeing at least 5 titles across instead of 4. About 1/3 of the screen is basically just dead blue space, and less titles per line means more scrolling.

The Watchlist is worse - there it's only 2 across. I say make all of these categories a uniform 5 titles.

Integrating with the TV app is essential on the Apple TV. Most of my viewing is done through that.

I miss not being able to sort my movies by genre, year, etc. It was great when I was in the mood for a particular type of movie but didn't want to scroll through my 1,200+ collection to find those types.

One possible bug - I tried this on 2 different ATV's and it did it on both... in My Movies, move around the area at the top (Purchase Date, A to Z, Release Date) with the remote and see if you don't get some funky behavior. It kind of jumps around for me...

Loving the Apple TV app, Vudu! So excited it's finally here. Instant HD streaming when you hit play and great fast forward and rewind functionality. Can't wait to play with it more. A wishlist for future features is having the alphabet letters appear on the scrolling icon on the right hand side for ease of finding titles. Also incorporating the TV app functionality so you can easily continue a movie or show where you left off without having to go into the app itself. I'm thrilled to have this app available. Thanks for your hard work Vudu team!

Re: Apple TV - Feedback and technical support

        Hi Jeffrey,

The app is great so far, but with just a little fine tuning it can be perfect!

Here are some of the changes I'd like to see made:
        • In My Movies at least 5 movies across, the menu column on the left is a bit too big
        • In My Movies, three whole rows of movies, and not have the third row cut off
        • When fast scrolling, instead of dots maybe have letters to give you a better idea of where you're at in your library
        • In Watchlist, three or more movies across
        • Add the ability to sort by Genre, Year, Tomatometer rating, etc.
        • Last but not least, TV app sync, so you can add a movie to Up Next and continue watching from there

I'm super excited that Vudu is on Apple TV now, if you guys can implement these changes you'll have a completely satisfied and happy camper in me. Keep up the good work!

In regards to people asking for letters and not dots when fast scrolling - I believe this is something the ATV does, not the app, and I *think* it's being changed in the next tvOS update...

Quick question: I have a pricy 5.1 system with an AV receiver, so sound quality is important to me. I tried watching a movie using the new Apple TV app and the sound seemed "off", for lack of a better word. Voices and music sounded more bassy and echoey than they should, as if treble frequencies were missing from the playback. I switched to the PS4 and the same movie instantly sounded much better. Can you think of a reason why this would be? Is some kind of conversion of the audio being done for Apple TV playback that isn't necessary on other devices?

Yes, I can confirm the sound is definitely not right.

I have an Apple TV (4th Gen) and have been using the Vudu app for a few days. Is there a way to know in which quality (HDX or SD) the video is streaming at besides just judging by the image quality visually? Also is there going to be a TV marathon feature in the Watch List and quality status indicator in a future update?

Re: Apple TV - Feedback and technical support

Thanks all for the feedback! Many fixes and features are on the to-do list and we hope to get these out as soon as possible.

                          A few quick notes:
                          1) Don't forget to put the Vudu app to the Top Shelf for even faster access to Watchlist content
                          2) Quality of stream is first determined by your Apple TV's device settings, and for most, that should mean HDX. If your network bandwidth has issues, the stream may downgrade automatically until you get more speed. In some very rare cases, we may only have an SD-quality stream, but we're working on that as top priority.
                          3) We think it'd be great to integrate with TV app too

Re: Apple TV - Feedback and technical support

The two biggest fixes needed in my opinion:

                            1) Enable Dolby Digital Plus. The sound is not nearly as good using this app compared to the Vudu app on my Tivo. Plus when using the Dolby Atmos test videos on Vudu, it will play with Atmos on the Tivo app, but stays at Dolby Digital only when playing it on the Apple TV app.

                            2) The search function does not work. I haven't heard anyone else confirm that yet. But every time I try it, the selected letters and numbers don't show up in the Search box. This is obviously a very important feature when you have a lot of movies like me!

For this, we have identified an issue with DD+ audio and will be fixing it ASAP. But you won't see DD+ or Atmos on a receiver since the Apple TV player (not controllable by apps) always decodes to PCM and either outputs the PCM or re-encodes to DD.
