    The "Incorrect Aspect Ratio" Thread

I think we should create a thread for this, as I have found way too many Vudu movies that are presented in incorrect aspect ratios. For instance:

SPECIAL NOTICE: When purchasing a movie, DO NOT rely on 2 minute previews to determine if the AR of a movie is correct on Vudu! Some movies only play in the correct AR for the opening credits but are cropped for the remainder of the movie!

    *1.85:1 to 1.78:1 and 1.37:1 to 1.33:1 alterations won't be listed.*

    (OAR = Original Aspect Ratio)

All films listed are AR problems found in the theatrical cuts on Vudu unless otherwise mentioned.

                    resident evil retribution 16x9?

I'm sure this has been brought up but I couldn't find it.

Any way you could pass on the request for this movie in its correct aspect ratio? I just around to watching this and was highly disappointed that its wrong.

I really want to jump into ultraviolet with both feet, but things like this make me hesitant.

                    Thanks!

Re: The "Incorrect Aspect Ratio" Thread

It really is surprising how many of the movies here are either the wrong aspect ratio or "pan and scan" source material was used to generate the streaming file.

I realize that there are tens of thousands of movies, but I truly believe Vudu should have a Quality Control team to view each movie file in its entirely for evaluation prior to posting it for sale or D2D.

If its too much to ask of Vudu workers, perhaps a few of the movie-UV-Vudu enthusiasts here would be willing to volunteer their services as "screeners" to evaluate HDX files before they go one sale to the public. Most of us have high quality home theater systems.

At least Vudu knows that WE are indeed watching their HDX files and we post our findings on the Vudu forum when something is not right with a file. Our reports are not petty. Many here are avid film afficionados and as such, our input should be taken seriously.

                            +1!!

I been a customer of VUDU long enough to remember their XL rackmount devices that were installed by home theater techs......I really hope they do not lose sight of the fact there are people with mid to high end systems that only want the finest VUDU can offer....

I am aware, however, that they need to cater to the average Joe too, with their PC's, Xboxes, PS3's , tablets, smartphones, etc....Most people do not like the black bars they get when a film is shown in OAR.....

Widescreen TV's are very common these days, and people know why those bars are there, so they understand that they are missing part of the picture if they watch a movie full screen. In the early days of DVD, it was common to see multiple sku's for a DVD, one for widescreen and one for full screen "Pan & Scan" but I don't think I have seen a fullscreen DVD in years. Also, if one does want to watch a movie in fullscreen, they can use the zoom feature of their player. So bottom line, vudu should offer OAR for every film!
