So in the end I think these devices are complimentary, which sucks. Ok, I've just decided. Vudu for the holidays. Maybe the wife won't really even notice it's there.

I guess AppleTv would have a place at my house if it werent for 2 things:

*) I download all my music off Amazon, and can stream them to my home stereo via my network and Directv HDDVR. Same with pics.

*) Plasma has a SVGA input so I use my laptop to stream purchased videos from Amazon to the tv. It also has a SD card slot so I just pull it from my camera and plug it in the side of the tv.

Luckily I dont need AppleTv, cuz I really dont want another box.

Out of curiosity, how would one rate Apple HD vs Vudu HD (not HDX).

From an ATV owner who didn't sell his:

            - The HD ATV content is very similar to Vudu's HD content. I found Vudu to have a little more color depth than ATV but beyond that, not much difference. The Vudu experience is better as you don't have to wait for the movie (about 45 seconds to a minute with the ATV) to start downloading before playing. Also, the Vudu trickplay experience is superior. But ATV does have chapters which is cool.

I like having both boxes. Vudu for movies. ATV for podcasts, music, photos, TV shows, etc.

I gotcha. If Apple did more with the box and came out with a better encode, they would be on to a one size fits all. I dont think they plan to though.

Except for podcasts (which I don't know what that really is. Sounds like something I would do with my fishing pole and a flashlight at night to catch Bull Frogs in Austin Texas on Travis Lake) my phasgorzmic Directv does all that stuff just fine.

Unlike NASA, I don't need the redundency.

Remember Apple just quoted again that "AppleTV is just a Hobby" for VUDU its serious business.

As of now, Im stuck with Vudu for movies and Amazon for tv shows, Id soon use Vudu for it all.
If you have a TiVo you can download the Amazon Unbox titles to the TiVo. It can be initiated from the TiVo interface or from the Amazon website.

I saw the feature, but I have Directv. Laptop works fine for unbox now that I can hook it to the plasma.

Unbox needs to go HD. Then I'd probably shut up about lack of TV shows on VUDU and stick to TiVo, lol

The biggest "bug" I found so far was a french horror movie that was DUBBED into english! The film was High Tension, it's a really good flick. It deserves much better treatment.

I can only imagine the poor viewers who sat through this wondering why the acting sounded so bad, while being out of lip-sync at the same time.
