Non 4K UHD List - 4K UHD Elsewhere

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...Z8I/edit#gid=0

As of this posting, Vudu offers over 300 popular titles that are available in 4K UHD on other streaming providers, but still in HDX on Vudu. We, the loyal Vudu customers would love to see Vudu make these titles available to purchase in 4K UHD so we are not forced to use a competing streaming provider to watch our movies in their highest quality available.

Due to the fact the list continues to grow, we have created a spreadsheet that lists all titles available, along with studio information and where the title can currently be purchased at in 4K UHD. Once Vudu adds a title from the list, we will remove it.

Just a quick list that I could come up with of UHD titles available at other streaming providers but not Vudu:

    After Earth
    Elysium
    Fury
    Goosebumps
    In the Line of Fire
    Men In Black
    Men In Black II
    Men In Black III
    Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
    The Karate Kid (2010)
    The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
    The Walk
    Underworld Evolution
    Godzilla
    Premium Rush
    Total Recall (2012)

    125 UHD
    842 HDX
    3 SD

I wonder if bandwidth costs have something to do with it, especially since iTunes has the free UHD upgrades and Vudu does not.

If Vudu had the same deal w/the studios as Apple (and remember Vudu is owned by Walmart, so it's not unthinkable for WM to make the push) then there would be more incentive for Vudu to have UHD day one. But Vudu consistently charges more than Apple for UHD. A LOT more (again, presumably because it doesn't have agreements w/the studios that allow for lower pricing like Apple does).

With the higher prices, it's doubtful that many are buying UHD content at Vudu. Instead they're either redeeming codes, or more likely, just buying cheap UHD movies from iTunes and porting in. It is the latter that is the likely thorn in Vudu's business model.

Under this scenario Apple gets the cut from the sale, and Vudu gets saddled with the support costs for the transaction (bandwidth, servers, etc.).

I see it like, if people are buying 4K disc, and redeeming 4K codes in iTunes or wherever, they are wanting to 4K quality, otherwise they'd just buy a Blu-ray with an HD code. I know many who will redeem their 4K codes (some HD) in iTunes and only watch those there for the higher quality, instead of coming back here to watch an HD version. This also would be high so many feel Vudu should do something similar as iTunes with their HDX to UHD upgrades. I wouldn't necessarily say free upgrades, but they need to offer some sort of HDX to UHD discount for upgrading. I wouldn't even bother looking at other MA retailers if they did that... but that's a discussion for another thread maybe... I can get passionate about that... lol

I can't seem to find In the Line of Fire in 4K anywhere, unless I'm missing it somewhere?

OP is missing Transformers 1-4. Vudu only has TF5 in UHD.

Still missing a lot... I have a long list, just checking each title to make sure it UHD hadn't been added since I started my list.

It may no longer be for sale just like "Air Force One" used to be for sale and then they removed it. I bought "In the Line of Fire" at the time but not "Air Force One".

It's ridiculous that Fandango Now has so many more UHD titles than Vudu available - and (IMO) is a more highly regarded provider. Vudu needs to step it up, as UHD desire has increased dramatically or FN will quickly pass them by as provider of choice.

I couldn't agree more. I honestly didn't know of FN when I joined Vudu, and when I did learn of them I didn't really use them to buy anything until last year. I would probably buy more, but most titles lost their UV rights. The only thing I dislike about FN is you can't purchase an upgrade for a title if you already own it, unless you have it removed from wherever it ported from, which takes days or weeks and by then the sale I wanted has went back up. iTunes has this same issue, that's the best thing right now with Vudu is you can still upgrade, though with a discount would be much better.

I only had a list of all 4K titles in iTunes... I assume they are other places too and will slowly add those in as well. I may end up making a spreadsheet with more information on each title, where it's 4K at and if it's MA, so I don't clutter up the OP.

Amazon does allow you to buy upgrades to UHD for a title you own. They actually list the UHD titles seperately. Amazon also allows you to delete titles from the library without contacting support. This is done through the website under video library.
