Please Remove Ads From Fox Shows

Fox includes ads with currently airing seasons of shows for sale, but after the season is over, they have been updating and removing the ads from the episodes. The Simpsons is an example of a show I own on both Vudu and iTunes, and many of the seasons still feature annoying ads of cancelled shows on the Vudu versions. But on iTunes they are now ad free and just the episodes alone. If Fox is doing this for other services after the seasons end, I hope Vudu can also have updated episodes for prior seasons of shows like The Simpsons, which currently have outdated ads for even worse no longer on the air shows.

Seriously? Ads on the episodes you buy? I will not be buying in FOX shows then. I buy seasons and episodes here so I don't have to watch ads. If I wanted ads I'd stick with my cable. If this becomes the norm I will stop buying TV shows all together.

Agreed, I buy a lot of fx/fox shows and they all have ads before and after the episode. I assumed that they would remove them once the season is over like they do with itunes etc but all of them still have ads. Very annoying, but I'm not holding by breath... Vudu takes ages to fix actual problems with titles like aspect ratios and sync issues, if at all... so I'm guessing removing ads might take a while.

Wow... just wow... this is the first I have heard of that. I've seen movies you can watch for free with ads, but never seen any that actually had the ads, just the banner above the title... I was planning on buying American Horror Story seasons (FX) and Modern Family (FOX), but don't think I will be buying them if those studios are adding ads. I don't care if it's just before and after the episode. I understand on Hulu some shows still have ads even with the ads free version, but those are not being bought to own, just to stream. $40 for a season with ads? NO THANK YOU.

Modern Family is not affected, as it airs on ABC, despite being a Fox owned series. The shows that have the ads are those that actually air on FOX, FX, FXX, etc, and advertise other shows on the network. So yes, American Horror Story episodes have ads. I actually don't mind them being on the current season if that's the only way they would sell them initially, but they should be removed once the season has ended. Fox shows especially are the most obnoxious, since they have ads for mostly cancelled shows that never made it past a first season, if that.

Ack, I always thought Modern Family was on FOX and I watch it a lot too.

Scream Queens: Season One has been updated on other digital retailers, removing opening and closing advertisements in preparation for season 2. Can Vudu please get updated files without ads as well? Still waiting on The Simpsons to be updated.

Wait. When did they add ads in Scream Queens? I bought it when it first came out, watched it after the season ended and I never seen any ads??

Are you sure you watched it on Vudu? All the episodes I have on Vudu have the Fox advertisements before each episode. My iTunes copies did too, but they have since been removed.

Yup, only where I own the season. I will give it a try in a little bit and check again.

I'd like to see them removed as well if possible. I bought Second Chance and would rather not have to watch their network promos every time I watch an episode. I just find it incredibly annoying especially after they canceled the show.

I went back and checked the first episode. It indeed has ads at the beginning, but I tell ya, those ads were not there when I made my purchase, as I remember watching them right before or right after the season ended.

I don't own any fox show but this is ridiculous. If Vudu doesn't respond or do anything about this it should be a word of warning to anyone looking to buy anything digital. This just means they can modify ANY Vudu show in the future, include ads, remove content, etc.

Whoever is seeing this should report it to media outlets and get this attention.

Re: Please Remove Ads From Fox Shows

I'm not worried too much about the addition of ads, since these were there when they released. The issue is that the studio has sent over new copies without ads to digital retailers (such as iTunes) that remove the ads about 6 months of airing on television. Vudu's store unfortunately has not updated to these ad free episodes, even on older seasons: Scream Queens, The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Horror Story, etc.

I own The Simpsons seasons on iTunes and Vudu, but definitely pick iTunes when currently watching as they don't have the ads. it's juts weird watching an older season, and seeing advertisements for shows like Dads which were cancelled after one season... or more recently The Grinder, etc.

Vudu needs to get on this and update these shows if they have the updated transfers that remove these ads. It doesn't bother me, but it is annoying to watch an old season that promotes that season as currently airing, when it's been canceled or has moved onto later seasons.
