The ad issue for currently airing seasons is something you would want to contact Fox directly regarding, as that is what they provide all the retailers with. I'm uncertain if there's a contractual reason for Fox including ads for next day episodes, or if it's purely and simply a way to advertise their other currently airing shows. I'm sure that's not information we would be provided with by Fox, but it doesn't hurt to e-mail them and voice your concern regarding ads in purchased content.
No, it's not something customers need to contact FOX about. It's an issue ALL streaming services need to get through to FOX. This isn't right. This isn't Hulu. We are not paying a subscription to watch the episodes the next day, then possibly have them taken away at the end of the season. We are paying to OWN the episodes. If I am going to pay a premium to own an episode, I do not want to deal with any ads, no matter how short they are. I deal with that on Hulu, and I buy on Vudu to not have to deal with that issue. If Vudu, and every other streaming services went to FOX with this, something could possible be done, but it seems like everyone wants to take what is given to them and say "no big deal" when people can pirate the same things, for FREE and not deal with ads, yet a paying customer is punished? I won't buy current seasons while this is happening, which in a way is a good thing I guess, since most go on sale or get price cuts after the fact.

I understand your point, but ultimately it is Fox who sells the content this way. Streaming companies can certainly provide input to the studio, but without us voicing our concern directly to the company selling it this way, there's no reason to adjust just for one digital retailer when there are no mass direct consumer complaints. We have to let the studio know that we are not content with this for future seasons, I'm simply trying to get prior seasons updated the way they have been for all other digital retailers.

Bumping this thread anyway in hopes of an update on this, i haven't noticed any seasons personally that have been updated to remove ads from prior seasons.

Has anyone noticed any changes to previous Fox seasons they own? I haven't noticed any so far that have been updated.

I'm still seeing ads in my Scream Queens, Season 1.

I'm done with FOX related shows until they remove ads from previous seasons. It's ridiculous!

It looks like they've been removed from Second Chance.

I don't know if all of these had ads, but of the FOX titles I had, Gotham, Seasons 1 and 2, American Horror Story, Season 5 seem to have had ads removed. Scream Queens, Season 1 still has ads.

Are you certain your season five of American Horror Story doesn't include ads? I just started a few episodes, and my purchase still includes them.

As for Gotham, it looks like none of the seasons have ads, including season 3. Maybe this series doesn't include ads to begin with? I noticed the series Lucifer doesn't include ads either. Though they air on Fox, I think there are two possible scenarios for these DC Shows. The first being the possibility that DC shows can't include ads per contract, or perhaps because they are UV enabled and have content restrictions which would prevent advertising? Total guesses, but the only thing that makes these different from other Fox shows is UV rights and DC Comics licensing. And possibly WB ownership? Although I'm not sure if there are other Warner Bros properties on Fox networks.

I only have the free episode (first one). I assumed the ads were on every episode? It didn't have ads on it at the beginning, unless they start after the first episode.

And they should be removed after the season ends. I believe iTunes received the new encodes from FOX, but Vudu has yet to update them.

Yes, iTunes gets updated encodes as do other digital retailers once the season completes, or the new season begins/or is canceled.

I understand this is quite the process as far as getting new encodes, updating everything, but I feel the customer of these shows deserves the same quality that other retailers are getting. I actually have come to really prefer Vudu over iTunes, but it's these small little things that do take away from the overall high quality experience of Vudu.

I'm someone who loves my Apple TV, and as much as I would love to be able to watch all my movies on that via iTunes, I don't see myself ever letting Vudu go. I may nitpick about things, but they are things one should have to complain about in the first place. Being we are paying customers (for the movies anyways), our voices should be heard, and not be put aside or let some studio say it's the best they have, when it's clearly a lie when other streamers have the newer encodes.

It's been quite some time, and it doesn't seem like anything has been updated... Is Vudu just never going to update these encodes? Please let us know so we can make our future Fox purchase decisions with knowledge of these potentially permanent ads.

I agree. I recently got an Apple TV, and will be buying seasons elsewhere that are updated with new encodes.
