Apple - Charging Same $ for 4K as HD plus upgrading all HD movies to 4K for FREE!

I'm suddenly wondering if I'm with the wrong platform:

iTunes users will get automatic upgrades of HD titles in their existing iTunes library to 4K HDR versions when they become available.

honestly, it should already at least be an option similar to the HDX upgrade, but it wouldn't take long to implement regardless of what the accountants say. I would have glady paid a few bucks to upgrade my HDX to UHD, but now I won't pay a dime to vudu to do it, I'll just look at the new apple tv.

The studios are largely the ones who control the pricing of their movies, not VUDU. If they made this sort of deal with Apple this will likely be the new normal with everyone. But it will take some time, it's possible some contracts might need to be renegotiated for example. It's not like you can watch 4K on Apple TV today anyway.

Inexpensive upgrades should have been the norm from the start. Over ten years here it's probably the most asked question/request.

I think it's pretty lame that hollywood would even make this deal with one company and one device. it should be uniform pricing where ever you watch something.

I really hope this gives Vudu leverage to negotiate a similar deal with studios. Vudu is my platform of choice, but making the switch is super tempting when it's so much cheaper.

All 6 movie studios supporting 4K on Apple TV is huge. Plus the free upgrade. It may be time to jump ship if Vudu does not follow.

Guys, continuing to dump on Vudu for no HDX to UHD upgrade path makes as much sense as dumping on a bar for not changing the recipe of your favorite beer. You're aiming at the wrong party, and that's kept you from getting anywhere.

Not really. Apple negotiated with the studios for this. That's what great about competition. If Vudu doesn't offer a similar service, some may switch to iTunes. There's nothing wrong with wanting Vudu to do the same.

Why would they switch if all their movies are on VUDU? It's not like you can transfer your VUDU HDX movies to iTunes and get them upgraded.

As of today, you are absolutely right. I'm talking more about the years leading up to this.

And I have no doubt Vudu will have to do SOMETHING to match this, I'm just perplexed that someone would threaten to take their business elsewhere just because they haven't made the change within minutes of their competition doing it...

Why would anyone pay 10-15 bucks more for the same movie in the same 4k quality? I have over 1500 movies in my vudu library and have no problem starting to give Apple my money going forward if the vudu price doesn't drop.
