I had a Comco$t "technician" argue with me for 20 minutes trying to explain that component carried a better picture than HDMI. Gee, analog vs. digital, hmmm...and he was one of the better ones, really, at least he was communicative.

Since there was a mention of DirecTV's PC tuner, I thought this link might be of interest -- http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/08/d...tuner-is-real/

Wow. Looks like they are beginning to implement some of the ReplayTV functionality into their new tuner (Replay already had a PC based DVR and room to room streaming).

                      Cool... Thanks!!

It looks sorta big though, so wonder if it really could be integrated into the guts of a TIVO or if would have to be an add-on box to TIVO. (of course, that's only if TIVO ever decided to do something like that).

But everyone keeps on talking about DirectTV going back with Tivo. They just purchased the assets and technology of ReplayTV. I doubt they are going with Tivo anytime soon. And given that the ReplayTV interface was better (IMVVHO), I can't see why they'd want to get into bed with TiVo again (why does TiVo make me think of jock itch whenever I hear the name or see the symbol? ).

Well I agree, I don't see Directv ever looking back and going back to Tivo.

I was suggesting that perhaps Tivo could license the Directv PC card technology from them and incorporate into a Tivo built and owned product.

                          BTW What's jock itch????

Perhaps ReplayTV was better (I never saw one so I couldn't say) but it doesn't really exist anymore. So it does make a lot of sense to compare the Tivo functionality with the DVRs of DirecTV and Comcast, etc., since those are really the only choices that people have today. Personally, I find Tivo to be the best choice of anything I have seen that is available today, and no that doesn't mean I like an itchy jock.

Hey forget I ever asked that question.

I talked to my therapist about it today and found that she has in fact been frequently taking care of this condition for me!

I had no idea.... I'm so embarrassed....

Agreed, but my point is that it would be really great to be able to compare a Tivo that supports both Comcast and DirecTV against their respective DVR products.

But since I can't get a Tivo that supports Sat, it's fairly moot for me to discuss it. I really would get one if I could. It's the same for me and FIOS too. I'm sure it's really great, but I simply can't get it and therefore can't either praise it nor condemn it.
