I understand VUDU has to get a product up and running, and the box can be updated. I really think this should be a priority...I can almost live without extras if the captioning is in place.
You realize that you contradict yourself here. You say that "it is not just important to a few people". Then you say "even if it is for a small group of people". "Few" and "small group" are pretty synonymous. I'm not saying that it isn't important. I was just saying that if is a feature that will only be used by a small percentage of Vudu users, as opposed to other features that will be used by many if not all. Also, there is a big difference between what a public museum needs to provide and what a private company like Vudu does.

Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not arguing against putting it in. I think it is something that definitiely should be implemented. At the time I made the comment, I was simply saying that there may be things that are more likely to drive sales for Vudu and, thus, would be more important to implement. After all, if not enough boxes sell, it won't be only the hard of hearing that can't enjoy Vudu.

      Re: Suggestions from new users!

So far I like the following about vudu:

      1) UI - very easy to use and very fast.
      2) Video quality - very high - looks great on my plasma - even the non-HD content looks good.
      3) Deep back catalog.
      4) Bourne in HD

What I don't like and is very disappointing:
      1) Very few current movies. I want to replace Blockbuster and today I cannot. Until this is rectified, I cannot recommend the product. Please add more current movies. If you cannot get the studios to play ball then you don't have a product. Sorry.
      2) Rentals good. Buy bad! Look, most movies are view once, maybe twice. 3) If I do buy it will either be superlative movies (Bladerunner comes to mind) or children's movies. And if I am going to buy, I want HD. Super high quality, knock my socks off, beautiful HD. Oh, but let me rent it too see item 2.

Please update the content. Vudu has great promise but it will simply become a very pretty door stop along with my equally useless AppleTV. Sorry to be harsh but I'm really unhappy with the current content.

        Thanks for the comments.

Please name some current movies the Vudu does not have. More and more are being added weekly and AFAIK, new releases are put onto Vudu the same day as in the stores. Admittedly, they may not be rentable at first, but they are there...

I've heard the complaint before and while I agree there needs to be more content, I am baffled when people say there is little "new" content available.

        New movies I know of:

        Ratatouille
        Simpsons
        Harry Potter
        Live Free or Die Hard
        Bourne Ultimatum
        etc...

Why do you need to replace Blockbuster entirely and immediately to consider it a valuable product today? Every movie you can watch on Vudu is one less you have to deal with Blockbuster for, assuming that you find the idea of VOD on demand appealing at all. Over time you should be able to use Vudu more and more and Blockbuster less and less, eventually not using Blockbuster at all. Exactly why does that warrant a "not recommended" position right now?

Post the support number on the system info page in the vudu box.

Great Idea....I am sure the VUDU folks will jump on that one.

They should also post our client ID # on our account page here, so we have access to it when we are not in front of the box.

Bill, I love the idea, but we don't care for the double posting of information here. Posting it once is enough please. Please refrain from doing this in the future.

                  Thank you,

I know that this isn't a new request, and I also know that Vudu is working on it, but I just wanted to voice the #1 on my wish list as: The addition of HD content.
Vudu, with it's rapidly growing library, is ready to compete with (and beat) PPV, Netflix, Bockbuster, etc, already. A full compliment of HD movies/shows will help Vudu attack the Bluray/HD-DVD player war. No, it won't satisfy the "I have to own the disc itself" people, but those on the fence, or those (mostly younger people?) who have embraced the "download" lifestyle could welcome Vudu with open arms. Just my 2 cents.

                        Simpsons

                        Live Free or Die Hard
                        Bourne Ultimatum
                        etc...

So, I went to blockbuster online and looked at their recent releases.

                        Here is what I found:

                        Artic Tale (waiting to rent)
Bratz (waiting to rent - out on the 26th)
                        Sicko (not available)
                        Mr. Brooks (not available)
The Company (not available to rent)
Home of the Brave (not available to rent)
                        Planet Terror (not available)
Christmas Do-Over (not available to rent)
                        You Kill Me (not available)
                        The Reef (not available)
Blue Smoke (not available to rent)

I really only interested in rentals unless it's HD content - remember I'm trying to replace Blockbuster. So of the 242 2007 releases available on VuDu today only 147 were available for rent or 60%. I'm not sure how much 242 represents of major studios and top independent releases so I don't know if that is a high number or low number. So, if the plan is to keep that ratio and delay rentals for weeks to months from release date then Vudu is not a replacement for Blockbuster. You should be honest with your potential customers - early adopters can be your biggest fans or your worst critics if you fail to meet expectations. I was a huge fan of Tivo when it first came out and must have influenced literally hundreds of buyers. I hope to do the same for Vudu one day. My criticism is to motivate improvement.

On a positive note: in my research I found lots of movies in the back catalog that I really like, some available for rent. I think a collaborative filtering feature where we, the Vudu community, could start listing some of our favorite movies in the Vudu library and then get suggestions based on similar profiles.

                          Re: Suggestions from new users!

                          Here are my suggestions:
                          • Embed a 802.11g WiFi card... it wouldn't increase the price of the box that much if at all and it would probably be a big selling point for people who are less inclined to run an Ethernet cable into their living room or buy additional hardware.
                          • What's up with not having the option to rent some movies?
                          • Lots of HD titles! I know this is coming.
                          • Some type of discount for paying a pre-paid amount every month for a set number of movies (think NetFlix). For me it's painful to have to spend money every time I want to watch a movie but if it's just a reoccurring monthly cost for the service it's doesn't seem so bad. Kind of funny but it's true.
                          • Some free VOD content... DTV gives me some free music videos.
                          • Bigger video previews... that box is so small, I'd like it to fill my screen (broadcasted via HD of course).
                          • Ability to rate a movie after watching it (community ratings in addition to the current IMDB ratings).
                          • After watching a movie I want it to show that its been previously viewed so that if I stumble upon the movie again I will automatically know that I've already seen it.
Love the interface though, it's really quick. Pretty amazing product for something that only launched a few months ago.
