Ok, I need to apologize to Jacob305 here... What I said about my Flixter account above is true, but my Cinema Now account was a different story.

The Abyss SE is appearing in CN, and it displays in the correct OAR, albeit only in SD. Still, a nice improvement over the Vudu version! Thanks Jacob305

not only that.. its even a better version then the dvd. it seems the dvd was missing some stuff on the bottom. you look at the dvd and then cinema now will notice that is more info on the bottom. at the moment, it seems that this is the best version of the abyss for now with the special edition. while its not remastered on the theatre version.. a least we got a decent copy until the blu ray shows up. if it ever does.

This version of the abyss should show up on all 3 with cinema now, flixster, and target ticket.

I guess the real question is how vudu can get that version? perhaps one of the experts can look into it?

Um, care to be a little less cryptic? I checked my Flixter account and my UV copy of The Abyss doesn't show up there, and it doesn't appear for purchase either.

I got this one on my account too. The quality itself isn't even standard DVD quality, it looks like something off of a Laserdisc THEN stretched to fill the screen. It's nearly unwatchable.

yes that is correct on vudu. its stretched. however on my setting for the receiver. if I set it to 4:3 when it will have the proper black bars on the side.

however there is even better news.. now that you have it in your collection.. try flixster, target ticket and cinema now. tell me what you? you might like what you see. if you play the cards right.

Just D2D for The Abyss. Wish I had found this thread earlier as only standard version is available and even then no widescreen but 4:3 (looks bad).

I appreciate this thread, as I too care about getting the OAR.

I've noticed a couple examples where I'm seeing the correct OAR, but it's specified as incorrect in the OP. An example is The Fifth Element. (It's 2.40:1 as I see it, definitely not 1.78:1.) Is this simply a matter of the OP's list not being updated? The main reason I'm asking is that I'm wondering if it's possible that for some movies, a new encode with the proper AR has been provided to newer purchasers on a "going forward" basis, and prior purchasers are stuck with the old, incorrect encode. I've always assumed that existing owners would be give a newer encode, is it possible that this isn't the case?. In addition to OAR issues, I'm always hopeful that some DD2.0 encodes will be updated to DD5.1 (The Matrix in DD2.0 ), bit now I'm wondering if that will be the case

Please list off the titles corrected for me and I'll update the list.

I just added The Fifth Element to the Corrected Titles and War of the Worlds to the Incorrect Ratio titles.

I'm sure this has been brought up but I couldn't find it.

Any way you could pass on the request for this movie in its correct aspect ratio? I just around to watching this and was highly disappointed that its wrong.

I really want to jump into ultraviolet with both feet, but things like this make me hesitant.

I think it's nice that the company is willing to correct these issues yes? Typically you are dealing with a faceless behemoth who couldn't give two shakes, in fact when I converted some DVD's I just thought, oh well I can live with the incorrect aspect ratio, as it makes really millimeters of difference.

But I'm so glad that:
A: Someone had the wherewithal to point this out.
and that B:

Someone from Vudu actually cares enough about the customer experience to literally do something about it.

I can confirm this. Just checked on my Roku and The Fifth Element is indeed 2.40:1.

The list only gets updated when someone posts here. You're the first person to mention that it's been fixed, so I'm sure the list will be updated soon.

If you see any other movies that have been fixed, please post the info here so the list can be updated. Thanks.

The War of the Worlds (1953) should be 1.37:1, but it's 16:9 on Vudu. The opening credits/titles and the closing company logo appear to be correct, but the actual film switches to 16: 9. This means we lose a lot of the picture.
