Maybe I'm confused. According to VUDU, Roku Premiere plus, streaming stick and Ultra have an 4K + HDR playback and is compatible with streaming Vudu in UHD. I'm assuming if the Smart TV app (Samsung, TLC, LG, etc.) aren't compatible with Vudu and Roku is, wouldn't that solve the problem? Or am I overthinking?

Perhaps you can help me. I'm taking the 4K tv plunge.
Most of my streaming is Amazon, Netflix, VUDU, Apple
I've narrowed it down to 4 4K tvs (all have HDR):
      Samsung - UN50NU7100FXZA
      Samsung- UN50RU7100FXZA
      LG - 50UK6090PUA
      TCL- 50S425
I sent this list to VUDU customer service to see if they were UHD compatible, they never answered my question, and referred me to the list at the beginning of this thread.
I bought an Apple 4k tv.
I'm wondering if I should skip the tv apps and get a Roku Premiere plus or streaming stick plus so I won't have a headache regarding tv compatibility.
      Any suggestions?
      Thanks!
Get a TV that supports Dolby Vision.

Also, for the record, the Chromecast Ultra works fantastic with VUDU, Vision/Atmos supoort.

      Cheers!

I have the TCL 65" from best buy 2018. Its a great bang for the buck. Also, you dont get screen burn in. It supports DV, HDR. its like $800. My friend purchased a SLG SK9000 for $1400 from Best Buy and I like the TCL better. What I noticed is you really need to get in there and tweak the TV to your tastes which takes research and time. Im feeding it an AppleTV4k and works great. That ATV4K unit has VUDU and iTunes built in so just in case you have movies from both providers you can play both. I also use the internal VUDU app built into the TV that works great too. But then again, I just looked at your budget which looks like less than $300?

Thanks for your input. I am cheap. But I may upgrade my budget. I can't do a 65" tv, my living room is very small.
I'm trying to narrow it down. I find I use my ROKU and Apple the most.
Going forward, with the Apple TV, I can stream Vudu, Netflix and Apple content. The only other things I use is Hulu and Amazon.
That's why I was thinking just getting a good, budget 4k tv to start and the 4K apple tv and Roku.
Roku Premiere plus, streaming stick and Ultra have an 4K + HDR playback and is compatible with streaming Vudu in UHD.
Also the TCL P&C series have a Roku interface and is compatible with streaming Vudu in UHD.
I miss the days when you didn't need a computer degree to watch/buy a tv.

You can't be that cheap if you're buying Apple products! Everybody knows that stuff is overpriced.

Then I would go with the TCL 6 series 55" TV. $500 TCL 55R617 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD Roku Smart LED TV (2018 Model)

Thanks! That's exactly what I've narrowed it down to. Now just debating to top it off with a sound bar or not.

                    @ Team Vudu,will the new 2019 Sony UBP-800XM2 Blu-ray player be getting a vudu 4K 24p Dolby vision app ?

So if I have a 2015 Sony XBR-55X900C and a Roku Ultra player am I not going to be able to get UHD playback or Dolby Atmos at all? I usually use the Roku Ultra on a different TV but recently upgraded to a Dolby Atmos surround sound system in the room with the Sony and tried hooking the Roku up to it to see what happens and it will only output UHD owned movies as HDX and the sound comes up as Dolby Digital Plus instead of Atmos. I know my Roku device and the receiver support everything but is it just the TV that's incompatible? I wasn't sure if all TV's need to be in the list of supported devices to work or if just hooking up a supported playback device to a TV not in the list would enable UHD playback. Gotta keep the TV though as it's one of the last 4K's that has passive 3D. Just trying to find out if it will ever display VUDU UHD titles or not. If not I'll probably buy physical discs of the titles I really want to see in UHD. Thanks for any info.

Since the UBP-X700 has DV support i would be shocked if the X800M2 does not.

Vudu team, FYI, there is a bug in the Sony UBP-X700 app that when you do HDR10 the TV does not switch to HDR10. I also tried Jurassic Park and same thing. When I forced HDR10 on my TV both looked better. Another person on AVS confirmed the same results with their Vizio 65P-F1 and the UBP-X700. Just thought you would want to know for future Sony UBP players since i know updates do not occur on this player.

It sounds like it's related to the TV - Roku Ultra definitely supports UHD, and I assume your Atmos receiver does? If the Roku is not showing UHD is supported in the Vudu app, it means that the HDMI is either reporting 4K resolution is not supported or HDCP 2.2 is not supported.

Some early 4K TVs (2014-2015) only had certain HDMI inputs capable of HDCP 2.2 - you may want to check the input you are using on the TV. To make it even more confusing, sometimes only certain inputs were capable of 4K. So you might have to play around with that.

What do you mean by "forced HDR10"? Some TVs do require enabling "deep color"/"true color"/etc on each HDMI input (basically their terms for 10 bit & BT.2020 color space needed for HDR10). That's not something the app or device can do, you need to do it in the TV settings.

If that's not what you were talking about, let us know so we can look into it...

Jake, will sony upb-x 800MA receive 4K DV app? sony support on their amazon page listing says that the app is one of the four on board apps but as I check its missing.

I played with it again. I have the Sony UBP-x700 connected to my Sony 65XBR-930e and when i play HDR10 movies like Predator or Jurassic Park the TV does not show the HDR logo by default, meaning HDR is not engaged. On my TV I can toggle the HDMI bandwidth and HDMI color options but unless I force HDR10 it does not enable HDR. During Predator when i enabled the HDR10 on my TV it will create more contrast and the bright fiery explosions are over saturated. I also forced BT,2020 color and again it is over saturated, explosions are too red. I turned off DV to ensure i was passing HDR10 from the x700 since everything is DV after the firmware update.

Here is someone else with the same issue on their vizio, https://www.avsforum.com/forum/149-b...l#post57973594
