I look forward to the day when the best possible streaming version of every title in my library can be accessed in one place. We?re getting closer.

UV might not be dead but thanks to Apple, and Vudu's lack of even coming close to matching an offer made by a competitor, it's one step closer to the grave.

For me to upgrade just what's in that list that was posted in this thread @ an average of $15 per title, I'd have to spend over $800 just to upgrade 60 of my titles THAT I ALREADY PAID FOR. With nearly 1900 in my library, I'd have to mortgage my house to get UHD copies of all of them. I simply will not spend that kind of money after I've already invested as much as I have.

I belong to another forum, and there were hundreds of members waiting in anticipation of Vudu's "Big" news last night. Many voiced that Vudu might offer free (or at least inexpensive) upgrades to UHD. Turns out Vudu's groundbreaking news was that it plans on supporting HDR10. Most already knew this was on its way.

I also pre-ordered Spider-Man, because of Vudu's promise to provide UHD+HDR. Well, where is it? Still "coming soon" I suppose.

Vudu has dropped the ball, they need to do right by their loyal customers.

Vudu is on the path to becoming a complete joke. What Apple did was platform changing. They put in place something that WILL cause people to switch to Apple. Good move on their part. And with a Vudu app on the ATV (even if it only remains HDX) - that will still satisfy people who quite frankly feel burned.

The non-announcement was garbage and they should be ashamed! HDR10 should have been in place all along.

Disc to Digital was supposed to built in to blu-ray players. The people involved in creating UV said that UV services would become region free, and that fee based upgrades to HD and UHD would be offered. None of this happened. I did manage to build up a large collection, but I don't feel like it's future proof. That was supposed to be the point. It was supposed to be as close to ownership as digital could be. A standard, like DVD. "Buy once, play anywhere" they said. If it was ownership, then you could transfer it to someone else. I once thought that would be offered eventually.

If Vudu wants to be competitive, they will offer upgrades, for a small fee, or even free upgrades. The people who created UV marketed UV as a service that would make re-buying movies obsolete. I'm not doing it for movies I own digitally. I've already spent thousands. I'm not doing that again.
Have they really dropped UV support? Because out of the 140+ UHD BD titles I've purchased since February 2016, all but two titles have had UV codes from multiple distributors. And the two that didn't were animated titles from Sony.

If support for UV had been dropped, there would be no UV codes included with the BDs being purchased.

Most likely Vudu is doing fine, but the future of UV is in doubt.

Will we EVER have one system that works across all retailers?!
Of course not. Just like we will never have once device to stream from everything.
Since different providers and regions have different streaming rights, we will never have access to every title from one location.

Apple, Amazon, and Google also all have better interfaces than Vudu and are easier and friendlier to use.
Huh??? I can't speak for Apple since I don't have an "Apple TV" and they don't make their service available on anything else, but neither Amazon nor Google can TOUCH Vudu on the Roku or my LG TV. Only Vudu has the listing of a movie's cast and crew with photos and an easy way to look up what else from them is available just by clicking on them. What could be friendlier than that? Google is practically a non-starter with its interface taking forever to load and plain-text aesthetic (it can't even deliver 5.1 sound on my TV), Amazon varies by device but it doesn't match Vudu in any case. On some devices Amazon even displays menus or graphics during end credits which is COMPLETELY unacceptable- the worst Vudu does is display the time counter onscreen during the first 5 seconds but that can easily be turned off with the Back button and then there's no more interruptions after that. At any rate, nothing else can match Vudu's ease of use unless there's some device I don't have (like an Apple TV) that does them better.

True, but Best Buy isn't a huge retail conglomerate like Walmart. Walmart probably makes more money through Vudu than physical disc sales in their stores. I didn't see Vudu going the way of CinemaNow.

I think Vudu has to rework some of their licensing agreements with studios for them to match or go further than what Apple has done. That may take some time.

Hopefully this brings the best out of them so we all can be happy.

I agree, I think Vudu has the best interface by far. It can always be better, and many features are needed, but I still think it's better than anything else out there.

I agree also. I use the Amazon app on my Sony smart TV and have a few purchased movies and use Amazon Prime. Their interface is unintuitive (many functions are accessed by pressing colored buttons on the remote) and the app itself extremely slow to load making browsing your queue quite a chore (There are no filters to sort through your library). Streaming can be iffy due to their inefficient use of bandwidth . There's also very few bonus features available for purchased content. Vudu's interface is much more attractive, loads much quicker, and all the details of a movie are displayed on one page. I've also used Vudu on multiple devices and the streaming is always flawless.

Vudu also has much better deals, D2D, sharing and other features which should make it far more attractive to customers. The only real thing Amazon has going for it besides its name recognition is its prime service, which has better content than movies on us. However, for accessing purchasing content which is what most of us care about, Vudu wins hands down.

Titles from Warner, Universal, Sony, and Fox have stopped including the UltraViolet name and logo on the artwork in the last two months. They still include codes, but they advertise them as digital movies, not UV. Titles from Relativity media have stopped including UV rights when purchased from Vudu or FandangoNow. I think they are beginning the transition to Movies Anywhere.

Re: Is Ultraviolet dead? Anyone else considering jumping ship (to Apple/Google/Amazo

I like Amazon's combination of Prime and purchased movies in one place (it's like having Vudu and Netflix together). They also tempt me into buying movies from time to time with the credits they give for using super save shipping. I really dislike their interfaces, though. The Roku interface is difficult to navigate and has all the wrong things as the default (I want to see my watchlist when I open it up and when I open a show it should go to the season I am on, not season 1 every time) while the web interface looks like a product page which seems a little strange for a movie streaming service. They also don't make the deals obvious (I didn't even know Amazon Video had deals until I went looking for them). You'd think Amazon would be better at this given how intuitive the rest of their site is (the textbook "Don't Make Me Think" even cites them in almost every example).

On the plus side, though, Amazon is constantly changing and not only do they respond to my suggestions with positive, seemingly hand-written emails but I've actually seen some of my suggestions and feedback added to the site before. Compare this to Vudu which still hasn't implemented simple features that have been suggested by many people many times. Does Vudu even have a development team? Another downside is the lack of a Fire Stick app but right now that's more of a reason to not buy a Fire Stick than to dump Vudu.

As for Apple, well, I don't own any Apple products, nor do I use Windows and I'm not about to switch over just for movie streaming.

And Google I have absolutely no reason to use. Amazon Video I use because I have Prime and Vudu I started using because I needed somewhere to stream my UV movies after I realized that those pieces of paper that came with my Bluray movies weren't trash.

So, to answer the original question, no, I don't plan on jumping ship anytime soon. Maybe if Amazon started giving out digital movies with Bluray purchases (either like they currently do with textbooks and CDs or what UV does) and overhauled their interface I'll start purchasing over there by default, but until then I think I'm going to stick with Vudu.

Exactly! I pre ordered it yet have no UHD upgrade yet they released the uhd today for ANYONE to buy for 19.99 anyway! SO any joe and jane that logs into vudu today can buy spiderman homecoming UHD for 19.99 yet the ones of us that pre ordered it are still waiting for it. How is that fair? People that pre order should get something average buyers do not that's the entire point of pre ordering otherwise why do it if you can just wait and get same thing on release day?

I have over 1300+ movies HDX and i will be damned if i will pay 29.99 for 98% of the titles to upgrade to UHD that is just stupid and makes me really angry i gave away all my itunes codes to family that use apple because they all have UHD free and i am stuck with HDX and that is when my library doesn't fluctuate and titles magically diappear and aren't available anymore on vudu.

Perfect example the movie "Survivor" has always been in my library for years yet now not only is it not in my library anymore there is no sign it ever existed on vudu period! And i have noticed this on alot of my titles they are just gone. I dunno if it was distributors or the us/eu flixter issue or what but vudu is getting unreliable and overpriced.

Relativity's UV codes stopped redeeming with UV rights too. Only way to have them in UV now is to have bought or redeemed before a certain date. Personally I had suspected this was related to the studio's financial issues and change of ownership.
