Re: Just orded a Vudu box...

Oh yeah, I had a weird issue with a movie skipping randomly. I would rewind and watch through the scene again and it would be fine so everything was downloaded okay.

Turns out something was interfering with the remote. I disconnected the RF antenna and it stopped. Still haven't found the source as of yet.

To be fair that one wasn't really a bug either. Anyone know what RF frequency the remote uses? That would help me find the interference source.

There's a setting to adjust the sensitivity of the remote. It may help fix your interference issue.

I tried that, I thought it was controlling the sensitivity (i.e. scroll speed) of the click wheel. Or did I imagine that?

EDIT: Just realized Greg works at Vudu. Guess I should look at that setting again!

There are also some DIP switches inside the remote you can use to change to a different RF frequency (4 are available). You will have to "repair" the remote if you change frequencies (see the sticky on this).

It just controls how sensitive the box is to RF signals. It won't change the behaviour of the remote itself (i.e. it won't affect any transmit power), but it'll change some thresholds on the box itself, so it would be more or less likely to pick up other signals.

I guess the appropriate setting is "as low as possible, but no lower" .

The 4 frequencies arei n the 390 to 400Mhz area. I would suggest to pair the remote. This will make phantom events less likely because pairing will make us check the address bits.

Link to directions on how to set frequencies and "pair" the remote.

Would that help the other situation that can occur where a remote doesn't respond particularly well? The 2 that I have that behave that way are the 2 that are on the original frequency and haven't been paired (one is in my dad's house). The others respond perfectly. I was wondering if having to check the address bits like you are saying here could possibly filter out RF interference. If so, that would be a really helpful tip.

Found this yesterday, repaired the remote at a different frequency and it seems to be fine now. Thanks for the help, guys.

YES, going through the "pairing" process with the out of the box remote settings can make a positive difference in the way it works.
