Re: VUDU UHD - Compatible Devices List

Can anyone with a 2016 LG B6 confirm they are getting a UHD resolution option for movies available in UHD? Because I'm not.

      From the OP:
*Available with latest firmware update. Due to variances in TV manufacturing not all devices within models may not compatible.
I'm not sure exactly what this means or if it even makes sense. Maybe I'm just stupid. Is it really possible that some LG B6's will have a UHD option in the VUDU app and some don't? Can B6 owners expect a future UHD update or should I just start buying UHD movies from a competing service? I'd like to continue to support VUDU but if my LG won't get UHD support I'll look elsewhere.

TIA for any info re: future updates for my B6.

Re: VUDU UHD - Compatible Devices List

I picked up an xbox one s this past weekend. It looks like I will be going back to physical copies of movies in UHD, now that I have a UHD blu ray player. Maybe Vudu will fall in line and support UHD with HDR sooner rather than later. I know several people that have bought UHD movies on Amazon so they can have HDR.

Well that is extremely disappointing... Guess I won't be purchasing any more movies through Vudu.

Re: VUDU UHD - Compatible Devices List

I SOOOOOOOO hate it when a company does "exclusive" contracts with specific companies for their product to be compatible. Now I don't know for sure if Vudu has done that with Vizio, LG, Roku, and NVidia but it sure seams that way. Don't you limit your customer base that way though? I mean Netflix works with any 4K (not that their selection is that great overall), and so does Amazon Prime (and they have a nicely growing selection for purchase). Also, Sony has launched it's own 4K movie service on Android TVs. I have used/loved Vudu for years, but I'm very disappointed that I can't get their UHD content on my 4K TVs, or my 4K laptop. I can't stop using Vudu, because I've purchased/enjoyed many movies, and I don't want to loose the movies that aren't UV compatible. But I can certainly stop buying movies through Vudu. Please add UHD support for all the 4K brands out there. You'll please all current customers, and open yourselves up for lots potential new customers as word gets out. I guess I'll have to hope, and keep checking back. Good luck folks.

Re: VUDU UHD - Compatible Devices List

It's not a matter of exclusivity, it's a matter of engineering. VUDU has stricter security requirements on UHD than some other services due to the premium titles & new releases from Warner Bros and Universal.

Assuming the hardware supports it, previous year TV models still need development work and firmware updates to support VUDU UHD streaming. We are working with various TV manufacturers on this front, but as expected they prioritize work on currently shipping TV models.

To put it simply: obviously VUDU wants to offer UHD on as many TVs as possible, if it was trivial it would already be done...

                          Thanks for the followup, Jake.

Since the stricter security requirements are per studio, does that mean studios supporting HDR10, like Sony, could see VUDU support sooner rather than later?

What is the exact model of your Samsung TV? VUDU Plans to support UHD on 2016 Samsung TVs. This is being worked on. There is no timeline for when this will get done as VUDU is actively working with Samsung to make sure that UHD works to our high expectations.

Xbox1, PS4 and PS3 do not support UHD at all so those devices wont work. You can purchase a NVIDIA Shield or a ROKU 4 which does support UHD. All you have to do is make sure your TV's HDMI port supports HDCP 2.2 otherwise UHD will also not play.

                              Thanks,
                              Tam
The two XBox Ones I purchased this month playback UHD BDs in HDR and also support UHD HDR streaming. Like from Netflix. But obviously not from Vudu yet. And unless Vudu starts offering HDR10 it won't really be worth it anyway for only playing back UHD content in SDR.

I'm pretty sure Vudu has missed out on a bunch of business by only offering DOlby Vision. Since only a small minority of people are capable of viewing content with Dolby Vision. While the vast majority of people that can view HDR content have devices capable of only HDR10.

Disagree with that part. Netflix 2160p is obviously better than 1080p due to extra bitrate, even without HDR. The Vudu UHD I watched (no HDR) with the Nvidia Shield looked better than HDX. If I am going to rent a streaming movie, it isn't going to be HDX because it doesnt look great anymore compared to what you have. Ill drive to redbox and spend $2.

I'd also hope my Xbone S gets a Vudu UHD app soon.
